Auburn took the field for its first scrimmage of the fall season on Tuesday, but one notable defender was missing.
Junior LB Tre’ Williams, who is dealing with an ankle injury, did not compete in the scrimmage, according to AL.com.
Coach Gus Malzahn is optimistic that Williams will return soon:
“Still day-to-day,” Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn said. “The good thing about a scrimmage like this is that we know what he can do. It gave those guys a chance to show what they can do. They probably got a few more reps than they normally would, but he’s day-to-day. I don’t think it will be much longer.”
Sophomore Montavious Atkinson filled in for Williams and had a strong performance.
Increasing Atkinson’s confidence and game-readiness is one positive from Williams’ absence, but the Tigers will be happy to see the junior linebacker back on the field as soon as possible.
