Auburn lost a key commitment from its 2026 recruiting class on Thursday morning.

According to On3’s Hayes Fawcett, 4-star linebacker JaMichael Garrett has backed off of his pledge to Hugh Freeze and the Tigers. He had been committed to Auburn since July of 2024, but will now explore his other options ahead of his senior season of high school football.

Garrett’s decommitment is not a huge surprise considering he was taking official visits to other programs this summer. He previously visited Ole Miss at the end of May and has trips lined up to both Miami and Texas A&M over the next couple of weeks, per 247Sports. He also visited Auburn during the month of May.

Still, this is a significant loss for Auburn on the recruiting trail if the Tigers aren’t able to get him back into their class. He’s the No. 222 overall player and the No. 19 linebacker in the country for the class of 2026, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

With this decommitment, Auburn is down to 7 members of its 2026 recruiting class. However, the Tigers are expected to add to this class in the coming weeks and months. For now, though, Auburn’s group ranks No. 50 in the country for this cycle, per 247Sports Composite rankings.
