Auburn offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee updated the ongoing three-man quarterback battle between John Franklin III, Jeremy Johnson and Sean White Sunday.
“From a quarterback standpoint, some good and some bad,” Lashlee told Brandon Marcello of 247Sports. “All three of those guys, it’s hard when you’re cycling all three trying to do it equally in terms of just everybody getting a lot of continual reps to get a great evaluation. The scrimmage will really help us with that.”
Auburn will participate in its scrimmage on Tuesday, which is the day after its first off day of preseason camp. Lashlee plans to evaluate each quarterback and make corrections to each players’ flaws leading up to the scrimmage.
Auburn plans to improve its consistency on big plays down field in 2016. The Tigers struggled last season with big plays, which was the second-worst offense of Malzahn’s career as a college coach.
“We’ve got to play with tempo and then the next thing is we’ve got to generate explosive plays,” Lashlee said. “That’s where we really struggled last year and it’s hard to score a lot of points in this league if you can’t generate explosive plays.”
