Auburn RB Malik Miller had to be helped off the field in Saturday’s victory over Louisiana Monroe, but offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee remains hopeful that the freshman ball-carrier could be back soon.

“We’re optimistic it’s nothing major,” Lashlee told reporters Sunday night after practice. “He was in good spirits.”

The Tigers will know more after Miller, who did not practice Sunday, is evaluated Monday.

On Saturday, he recorded nine carries for 45 yards and a touchdown. After the game, Gus Malzahn said he did not have details on Miller’s injury.

“I’m not for sure exactly,” Malzahn said. “It was a pretty good lick right there. I’m not for sure exactly his status right now.”

While Miller’s status is uncertain, Lashlee did have some positive updates on the injury front.

RB Kamryn Pettway is expected to play against Mississippi State. He dressed out but did not play Saturday.

“He just wasn’t full speed, so we felt like if we could get by and rest him, that would be best for the long term,” Lashlee said. “He was out there tonight practicing with us, and we expect him to be ready to go.”

Center Xavier Dampeer is also expected to play against the Bulldogs. Dampeer’s return will allow Auburn to go back to its original starters on the offensive line.
