Under Gus Malzahn, Auburn wasn’t known for featuring tight ends in the passing game. That has noticeably changed under Bryan Harsin.
Last season, no Tiger tight end finished in double-digit receptions or triple-digit receiving yards. John Samuel Shenker’s 9 catches for 97 yards led Auburn’s receiving production at tight end in 2020. This season, in eight games, Shenker already has 21 catches for 273 yards.
Auburn center Nick Brahms summed up the change perfectly with a joke during Wednesday’s media opportunity: he didn’t know they could actually catch the ball.
Auburn C Nick Brahms joking on his teammates in the TE room when asked about their increased role in the passing game this season: “I didn’t know they could catch, honestly. I thought they were just blockers. We were trying to recruit them to the O-line.”

The Auburn passing attack, including the tight ends, are gearing up to face a Texas A&M defense that allows 199.9 passing yards per game on average.
