Auburn reportedly losing freshman edge Amaris Williams to transfer portal
Auburn edge rusher Amaris Williams has signed the papers necessary to enter the transfer portal, he told On3Sports on Monday.
The 6-foot-3, 265-pound defensive end will have 3 years of eligibility remaining next fall at whichever school is fortunate enough to get him in the portal. The true freshman had 7 tackles, 5 of them solo, and half a sack this season as his collegiate career got started on the Plains. Now, it’ll reportedly continue somewhere else in 2025.
Williams saw action in 10 of Auburn‘s 12 games during the 2024 season. He only missed the matchups against Arkansas and Georgia. The edge recorded 1 solo tackle apiece against Oklahoma, Missouri, Vanderbilt and Louisiana Monroe.
Williams, a member of Auburn’s 2024 recruiting class, was a 4-star recruit and the 62nd overall-ranked prospect by the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He was the 6th-ranked edge rusher and the No. 1 player from the state of North Carolina.
As a senior at Clinton High School in Clinton, N.C., 20 of Williams’ 40 tackles were for loss. He also piled up 11 sacks as a high school senior. With Williams’ departure on Monday morning, the Tigers have now lost 2 of their top 4 signees from the class of 2024 – which was ranked No. 8 nationally by 247Sports.
