Auburn has been on a dominant start to the college basketball season, and the Tigers were finally awarded the No. 1 spot in the AP Poll when the new rankings were released on Monday.
Last week, previously unbeaten Tennessee fell on the road to Florida. While the Vols did rebound with a win over Texas, Tennessee fell 5 spots to No. 6 on Monday.
Meanwhile, Auburn‘s undefeated start in SEC play has the Tigers up to 15-1 overall. Johni Broome’s status is still something to monitor but the No. 1 spot in the country is hard to dispute at this point. Behind Auburn is No. 2 Iowa State, No. 3 Duke, No. 4 Alabama and No. 5 Florida at the top.
Also of note is Georgia cracking the top 25 at No. 23 overall. The Bulldogs pulled off back-to-back ranked wins over Kentucky and Oklahoma to earn their first ranking since 2011 but will turn around to face No. 6 Tennessee and No. 1 Auburn this week.
The SEC is still dominating the AP Poll with 9 teams ranked and 2 more in the “Others receiving votes” section.
The early portion of SEC play has Auburn, Alabama and Ole Miss tied atop the standings at 3-0 in the league. However, it is still shaping up to be a dogfight to the finish line in March.
