Auburn’s 2018 recruiting class took a hit Saturday as Miami defensive end prospect Robert Hicks has backed off his commitment to the Tigers.

Hicks announced the move, without any public animosity toward Auburn, early Saturday. Hicks’ tweet reads:

“First off I would like to thank Auburn coaching staff and everything at Auburn University for giving me the opportunity to be apart of the program. I respect Auburn University, but as of today I am officially decommitting from the University.”

The 6-foot-1, 220-pound Hicks is rated as the No. 9 weak-side defensive end in the nation according to 247Sports. Hicks currently holds offers from Auburn, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Miami and Oregon State among others.

Auburn now holds only one 2018 commitment, four-star running back Joey Gatewood.
