SDS News: Jarrett Stidham excited to see what Auburn RBs bring to offense this season

Auburn’s big question mark on offense is at running back following the departures of Kerryon Johnson and Kamryn Pettway. Count Tigers QB Jarrett Stidham among those excited to see what this year’s stable of ball-carriers brings to the offense.

“I’m pretty anxious to see how the group will do, obviously with Kerryon leaving them, you just never know, because they haven’t stepped on the field that much,” Stidham said. “But Kam Martin has obviously played quite a bit and done really well, so I knew Kam would be fine. Some of those younger guys, I was really looking forward to seeing how [Jatarvious] Whitlow would play and Asa [Martin], and now that Shaun [Shivers] is here. I’m really seeing how that group collectively plays and that kind of thing.

“I’ve been really pleased with how they’ve handled fall camp and most of them, this is their first fall camp, they don’t really know what they’re getting themselves into quite yet. But I’ve tried to prep them as much as I can and I think they’re going to be ready to roll.”

SDS News: Gus Malzahn rules touted Auburn QB Joey Gatewood out for Washington game

Everyone is waiting to see Auburn freshman QB Joey Gatewood. However, it won’t be against Washington.

The 6-foot-4, 232-pound dual-threat QB was ruled out for Saturday’s game against Washington with a thumb issue, Gus Malzahn said Tuesday. Of course, Gatewood was at-best the third-string signal caller, and now, Cord Sandberg steps into that slot. Sandberg is the former minor-league baseball player who just arrived at Auburn this month.

“Cord’s really progressing,” Malzahn said. “He’s really impressed coach (Chip) Lindsey with everything that goes with it.”
