Austin Davis has made his decision, and Auburn is reportedly in the market for a new offensive coordinator for the second time this offseason.
Davis, the Seattle Seahawks quarterbacks coach who was hired earlier this offseason, is stepping down and leaving the program, sources told On3 Sports and AU Undercover. Following the 2021 regular season, coach Bryan Harsin fired offensive coordinator Mike Bobo after one year with the program, and Bobo has since landed at Georgia as an analyst.
Davis has informed Auburn coaches and players he intends to step down from his position, and he is not expected to return, multiple sources told Auburn Undercover and Inside the Auburn Tigers over the past 24 hours. Davis has been with the program just a couple weeks, although his hiring was announced in December.
He has a meeting Bryan Harsin on Monday, though it is “unlikely” Davis changes his mind, a source told Auburn Undercover.
Nathan King of 247Sports, reported on Sunday that Davis was “rethinking” his decision to leave the NFL for college.
King added, “New Auburn offensive coordinator Austin Davis has been away from the program for a week, and there’s dwindling optimism about the situation. Things can change, of course, but as of right now, he is not expected to return to the staff. We will continue providing updates as they come.”
Davis became an NFL assistant coach in 2019 after a seven-year NFL career playing for 5 teams. He took on the new role of quarterbacks coach in 2020 after one year as an offensive assistant for Seattle.
