Austin Simmons was forced to exit Ole Miss‘s game at Kentucky with a lower-body injury. It didn’t seem serious as he appeared to be ready to return, but instead remained on the sideline as Trinidad Chambliss instead played the rest of the way.

Now, with the Rebels set to face Arkansas on Saturday, Simmons “is expected to be a game-time decision”, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

“He’ll be monitored in warm-ups and a decision will be made,” Thamel said on X.

Simmons has had a decent start to the season for the Rebels. He was 20-of-31 for 341 yards against Georgia State in Week 1, throwing 3 touchdowns despite 2 interceptions. Before leaving the Kentucky game, he threw 2 more interceptions and 0 touchdowns while going 13-of-24 through the air, but took 8 carries for 44 yards and a score. He was later listed as probable on the Rebels’ availability report released on Wednesday.

If Simmons is unable to play, Chambliss will be handed his first FBS start.

The Grand Rapids, Mich. native spent 3 seasons at Division II power Ferris State, throwing for 2,925 yards and 26 touchdowns while adding 25 touchdowns and over 1,000 yards on the ground in 2024. In his first and only year as the team’s starter, the Bulldogs won their 3rd national championship in 4 seasons.
