After backing off UGA pledge, Alabama lands commitment from 4-star Georgia DL Rashad Cheney

It turns out Kirby Smart hasn’t closed the Peach State borders after all as Alabama just landed a commitment from one of the best prospects the state of Georgia has to offer in defensive lineman Rashad Cheney.

Cheney’s commitment comes after he decommitted from Smart’s Georgia program in January.

The 6-foot-2, 270-pound Ellenwood, Ga., native is ranked as a four-star prospect and the No. 17 overall defensive tackle prospect in the nation in the 2019 recruiting cycle by 247Sports Composite Rankings. He currently holds scholarship offers from Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Mississippi State, Tennessee, Miami, and Penn State among others.

He announced the news Thursday afternoon on Twitter:

Following Cheney’s commitment, Alabama now has a total of five 2019 commitments lined up. All five are rated as four-star or better prospects.
