Baker Mayfield is signing a contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to multiple reports.

NFL insider Albert Breer was 1st to report the details of the contract. Mayfield is signing a 1-year deal worth $4 million in guaranteed money. It could be worth as much as $8.5 million, per Breer.

Mayfield is coming off of a good stint as the Rams’ backup quarterback at the end of last season. He completed 63.6% of his passes for 850 yards and 4 touchdowns in 4 games.

He began last season with the Carolina Panthers, but was released part-way through the season.

Mayfield, a former No. 1 overall pick, is now 27 years old. This will be his 6th NFL season after being picked at No. 1 by the Cleveland Browns in 2018.

Mayfield is expected to compete for the starting job alongside former Florida quarterback Kyle Trask. The Bucs took Trask in the 2nd round of the 2021 NFL Draft. It appears either Mayfield or Trask will have the responsibility of replacing the now-retired Tom Brady.
