Joe Burrow isn’t ready to return to game action quite yet.

On Monday, Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor announced to the media that Burrow won’t play in the team’s second preseason game against Washington, which is set to take place Friday night at FedEx Field. Burrow also didn’t play in the Bengals’ 19-14 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their preseason opener this past Saturday.

Burrow suffered tears to the ACL and MCL in his left knee during Week 11 of the 2020 season. He was having a solid rookie campaign to that point, having passed for 2,688 yards, 13 touchdowns and 5 interceptions in 10 games.

Last week, Taylor told reporters (including ESPN’s Ben Baby) that he wasn’t ruling out the possibility of Burrow playing this preseason. However, now that Burrow has been ruled out again this week, the only chance for him to play would be Cincinnati’s preseason finale against the Miami Dolphins on Aug. 29.

Whenever Burrow gets back on the field, he’ll have a better offense around him than the last time he appeared in a game. That’s because the Bengals added Ja’Marr Chase, Burrow’s former LSU teammate, in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

It’ll be exciting for LSU fans to see the Burrow-Chase connection happen again. They’ll just have to wait at least one more week — and potentially longer if Burrow doesn’t suit up this preseason.

The Bengals open the regular season on Sept. 12 against the Minnesota Vikings.
