Sometimes you have to risk a lot to win big, as one College Football fan did this past weekend.
ESPN.com reported that a bettor at William Hill’s sportsbook at the Hyatt in Lake Tahoe risked $122,000 on Clemson beating Auburn straight-up at -320, which earned him $38,125.
Other bettors were far less fortunate. C.G. Technology vice president of race and sports Jason Simbal told ESPN that eight of every 10 bets favored Clemson, who was an 8-point favorite at most sportsbooks.
With a 19-13 lead late, Clemson coach Dabo Swinney elected not to risk kicking a field goal on 4th-and-4, instead going for it on fourth down and handing the ball to running back Wayne Gallman, who failed to convert.
“There was lots of grumbling at the end of Clemson-Auburn, of course,” South Point sportsbook director Chris Andrews joked. “But I loved it.”
