Based on the most recent College Football Playoff rankings, the Big 12 would only get one team into the field. And that team would not receive a first-round bye. Instead, Boise State would get the No. 4 seed while Arizona State — the projected Big 12 winner — would be the last team in.
After his team won its game handily on Saturday, Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire took aim at the CFP selection committee for what he believes is brand bias favoring the SEC and the Big Ten.
McGuire pointed out that, if Oregon wins the Big Ten, a Pac-12 team will win the Big Ten in its first year in the league. He pointed out that Texas, a Big 12 team a year ago, is in a position to play for the SEC championship. He pointed out that SMU, an AAC team a year ago, is in a position to win the ACC.
“I think it’s absolutely embarrassing what this football committee … is doing to this conference,” McGuire said. McGuire believes the Big 12 champ should get a top-4 seed in the CFP and the Big 12 should be in consideration for multiple bids. “I think it’s absolutely ridiculous what is happening at that level with that committee.”

The Big 12 might also be won by a former Pac-12 team this season. The tiebreaking scenario in the Big 12 is convoluted, but Arizona State and Colorado both went into the final weekend with a chance to play for the conference’s title game.
Conference realignment has certainly shaken up traditional power dynamics in the top conferences. Alabama was trending toward a CFP at-large bid before Oklahoma stomped the Crimson Tide in Norman a week ago and threw a wrench in everything.
Texas plays Texas A&M on Saturday for the right to face Georgia in the SEC title game. That result will go a long way in determining how many spots the SEC gets in the CFP.
