Add another college football job opening to the list.

According to reports released Monday, Texas Tech coach Matt Wells has been terminated by the school effective immediately.

Wells, a native of Columbia, South Carolina, was in his 3rd year with the Red Raiders. He was just 13-17 overall but had Texas Tech at 5-3 overall and 2-3 in conference play so far this season.

Offensive coordinator Sonny Cumbie is expected to take over as the Red Raiders’ interim head coach before a national search takes place after the season.

Wells came to Texas Tech from Utah State, where he had compiled a 44-34 mark in 6 seasons.

The Red Raiders are back in action on Saturday at Oklahoma.
