Big 12 suspends Mizzou-Kansas officiating crew for Week 3 because of Border War mistake

The Big 12 has pulled the officiating crew from its next scheduled assignment on Sept. 12 for a mistake made in the Border War.
In Saturday’s Border War matchup between Missouri and Kansas, the officiating crew allowed a punt to occur on a free kick. This was in direct violation of the NCAA Football rules, and the Big 12 has taken action against the officiating crew.

Here’s the official statement from the Big 12:
The Big 12 officials in Saturday’s Kansas-Missouri game allowed a punt to occur on a free kick in violation of Rule 2 Section 16 Article 6 of NCAA Football rules. That Big 12 officiating crew has been removed from its next scheduled assignment on Friday, September 12.”
“We believe we have one of the best officiating programs in college football,” said Big 12 Chief Football & Competition Officer Scott Draper. “When the Conference’s high standard for officiating is not met, the Big 12 will take action.
Missouri went on to beat Kansas, 42-31, in this showdown. Mizzou quarterback Beau Pribula played great, completing 30 of his 39 passing attempts for 334 yards and 3 touchdowns.
The Tigers’ rushing attack also got going as Jamal Roberts took 13 carries for 143 yards and 1 score. Running back Ahmad Hardy also joined in on the action, carrying the ball 25 times for 112 yards and 1 touchdown.
The Mizzou offense was clicking on all cylinders.
