JJ Pegues has found the end zone early against South Carolina in Week 6. All 6-2, 325 pounds of him.

Ole Miss’s senior defensive tackle took a direct snap from the 1-yard line, cut to the right and plowed over a South Carolina defender for a touchdown, giving his team a 14-0 lead over the Gamecocks after 10 minutes of play. No defender ever stood a chance.

Check it out below:

Pegues, who transferred from Auburn a few seasons ago, has filled out quite the role for the Rebels in short-yardage situations. This is his 3rd rushing touchdown of his career and the 3rd of this season – he also scored against Furman and Georgia Southern in the exact situation. Pegues was utilized last season for this role but failed to find the end zone.

Then, of course, there’s his prowess on the defensive end. Pegues is a strong interior lineman for the Rebels, sitting at 16 tackles on the season and 0.5 sacks. Last year Pegues finished with 42 tackles, 3.5 sacks and 3 pass deflections.

Ole Miss has looked much more like itself this week against the Gamecocks, who beat the team the Rebels lost to last week – Kentucky – by 25 earlier this season. There’s still plenty of time, but the Rebels lead South Carolina 14-3 with just over 10 minutes remaining in the 2nd quarter.
