Big Ten team has lost next game following every Taylor Swift album release
Unless you’re living under a rock, you likely heard that Taylor Swift released her new album “Life of a Showgirl” earlier this week.
Well, everybody involved with the Purdue football program likely groaned when they heard the news, because that’s always been a bad sign in West Lafayette.
As highlighted by The Sporting News, the Boilermakers have now lost every single game they’ve played following a Swift album release, which dates back to 2006.
That’s 11 total albums and 11 total defeats for Purdue, as from Nevada to Ohio State, the Boilermakers have found ways to lose when Swift drops new music. 10 of the losses came in Big Ten play, and they range from 34-point setbacks to narrow 3-point defeats.
Is it related to the program having an affinity for Swift, and thus not taking preparation as seriously leading up to these games? Or is its opposition simply more motivated than they are due to the new music?
Those are the hard-hitting questions first-year head coach Barry Odom may be asked this week, something the longtime coach likely never thought he’d be talking about.
But now that the curse has been lifted with Purdue losing 43-27 to Illinois on Saturday, Odom & Co. can go back to playing normal football.
They’ll visit Minnesota on Saturday for a crucial Big Ten swing game, and unless Swift drops a surprise album, the Boilermakers actually have a chance at winning this time around.
