Big Ten team runs out of fireworks after scoring so many touchdowns against FCS opponent

Minnesota football is absolutely decimating FCS Northwestern State, and it seems the people in charge of the fireworks after every touchdown didn’t think the Golden Gophers would get this far.
In what has to be the most midwestern thing ever, Minnesota showed a message on the video board following the Gophers’ latest touchdown, reading “We ran out of fireworks… Ope, Sorry!”
Not sure if this is midwestern enough for you quite yet? Well, the Golden Gophers scored in the 3rd quarter, which means fans get free cheese curds with an online purchase at Culvers.
Straight from the team account:
66 points is the most Minnesota has scored dating back to October of 2001 when the Gophers beat Murray State 66-10. And remember folks, we still have an entire quarter to play.
Obviously, Minnesota has taken its foot off the gas a bit. The Gophers scored 59 points in the first half alone, and if they wanted could very likely hit triple digits. Fortunately for Northwestern State, Minnesota appears to be a good sport.
Almost all of Minnesota’s damage has come on the ground in this one. The Gophers have totaled 38 rushes for 207 yards and 5 touchdowns, while also throwing for 226 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Let’s see if the Demons can put some points on the scoreboard before this one is over.
