Big year coming? LSU DC Dave Aranda praises QB Joe Burrow’s mastery of Tigers’ offense

Last year, QB Joe Burrow led the LSU Tigers to a 10-3 record despite not arriving as a graduate transfer from Ohio State until summer practices.
Now that he’s had a full season and full offseason in Baton Rouge, big things are expected of him and the LSU offense in 2019.
On Tuesday, LSU DC Dave Aranda said he’s seen a lot of maturity from Burrow this offseason and a mastery of the offense that even has his star-studded defense on its toes (via The Advocate):
Sometimes there are reads before the ball is even snapped, where Burrow could glance to the left and see that a cornerback is playing off his wide receiver, permitting enough room for Burrow to sneak in a quick pass for a slant or an out or a hitch.
“That’s where we’re at on offense,” Aranda said, “If we (as a defense) tip anything, the ball is out to the best spot, the safest spot. It’s difficult to get hands on quarterbacks, difficult to pressure quarterbacks. So that’s very impressive.”
The LSU running game will need some new guys to step up, but the passing attack returns most of its key contributors from 2018.
How much improvement will we see this fall? If Aranda’s note about Burrow is accurate, it could be a big year for the LSU offense.
