Billy Napier was asked about how he thought his first season with Florida went. The Gators HC discussed this at SEC Media Days on Wednesday.

Napier’s first season with Florida ended with a loss to Oregon State in the Las Vegas Bowl and a 6-7 record.

Napier admitted that mistakes were definitely made in his first season, but he knew to expect that going in.

“We made mistakes but, heck, we knew were going to going in,” said Napier.

Napier’s tenure opened with a promising 29-26 win against No. 7 Utah in The Swamp on Sept. 3. The Gators intercepted the Utes inside the Florida ten-yard line to secure the upset.

That win would unfortunately be the only ranked win for Florida in 2022.

Napier will also have to navigate having a new face at quarterback this season.

Anthony Richardson now plays for the Indianapolis Colts after being drafted in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Luckily former Wisconsin QB Graham Mertz will be bringing his experience with him to Florida.

Napier will have a chance to beat Utah in back-to-back seasons as Florida’s 2023 season opens with the Utes. The game will be in Salt Lake City this time around, however.

That game will be on Aug. 31 and broadcast on ESPN at 8 p.m. ET.
