Billy Napier assesses LSU’s QB situation for Week 11 following Jayden Daniels’ injury
Billy Napier has a unique challenge to prepare for this week as Florida takes on LSU.
The Gators’ head coach will have to prepare for 2 different quarterbacks as uncertainly still remains on Jayden Daniels. Daniels went into concussion protocol after a rough hit in last week’s game against Alabama, and his status for Saturday is still unknown. Garrett Nussmeier came in after Daniels’ hit and would be the start on Saturday if Daniels can’t play.
That leaves Napier with 2 very different quarterbacks to prepare for.
“I think it’s part of the challenge this week, the uncertainty around their quarterback situation,” Napier said during the SEC coaches teleconference Wednesday. “Both of these players have experience. They’ve both done a nice job of moving the offense. I think Nussmeier because of kind of the flow of the last couple years has an opportunity to play significant snaps and really play at some meaningful times. So they both do a good job of making decisions and moving the ball.”
While LSU hopes to be able to play its regular starter in Daniels, Nussmier has starting experience and could be a viable option as the Tigers get Daniels back to 100%.
“Obviously I think Jayden’s playing as good as anybody in the country so far and has some really impressive performances,” Napier said. “Jayden’s ability to run is a big equalizer, I think I mentioned that earlier. Nussmier knows the system and has fantastic skill players around him. So I think it’s a big challenge, one that’s going to require us to be at our absolute best.”
LSU is looking to bounce back from the loss to Alabama on Saturday. Florida is also looking to bounce back from an overtime loss to Arkansas, and the Gators are desperate for an upset as they try to reach bowl eligibility.
