Billy Napier won’t be on the sidelines as Florida faces UCF in the Gasparilla Bowl in Tampa on Thursday. But the new Gators head coach continues to work on filling out his initial staff.

And he could be looking at a current SEC director of football operations—and a familiar face—to take a similar position in Gainesville, according to reports on Thursday evening.

Football Scoop is reporting that Josh Thompson, currently at Auburn, is a name that Napier has been focused on. Thompson joined the Auburn staff from Arkansas in Jan. 2021, where he was the program’s director of recruiting for 2 seasons.

Before his stint in Fayetteville, Thompson was the director of recruiting under Napier at Louisiana in 2018, and was a player personnel assistant at Texas A&M prior to that.
