Billy Napier on booing from fans during Texas A&M loss: ‘I probably would have done the same thing’
Billy Napier was repeatedly boo’d by fans in Gainesville during Florida’s 33-20 loss to Texas A&M on Saturday.
The booing was perhaps loudest at halftime as Napier left the field to go to the locker room. At the time of Napier’s exit, the Aggies led 20-0 of his Gators team. In addition to playing on the road, Texas A&M was also playing with a backup quarterback in Marcel Reed in place of injured starter Conner Weigman.
In his postgame press conference, Napier was asked about getting boo’d by the Florida faithful. Napier was largely contrite and said he understood the frustrating from Gators fans.
“I have no negative comment about that,” Napier said. “When you play a certain why in this arena, you’re going to be criticized. This is one of those places where there’s history and tradition and expectations. There’s been a lot of really good football teams that played in that stadium in the past. When you play ugly ball, maybe it doesn’t look like we all want it to, then hey, it comes with the territory.
“I probably would have done the same thing, truth be known.”

Napier’s comments come just a couple of weeks after he came under fire for taking a jab the Florida fan base. Napier later walked back those comments.
Napier is in his third season at Florida but is widely believed to be on the hot seat already in 2024. He’s just 6-11 in SEC games in 2+ years as Florida’s head coach.
Florida will go on the road to face Mississippi State in Week 4.
