Scooby Williams has developed into a dependable defender for Florida this season, and coach Billy Napier has noticed it.
Napier on Wednesday on the SEC coaches media teleconference noted how Williams has been “awesome” and made the transition from an outside pass rusher in high school, to a stacked linebacker.
“Obviously you see the game differently when you’re on the edge,” Williams said. “You’re kind of viewing the game out of one eye and all of sudden moving to stacked backer you see with both eyes. Communicate more, process more, much more of a communicator and the mental piece. He’s done an outstanding (job), I think this offseason in particular has been critical and then he’s got some of those pass-rush traits from high school that are natural for him.”
Williams is among the Florida leaders in tackles for a loss (3), tackles overall (20), sacks (1), QB hurries (2) and forced fumbles (1).
“I’ve been very pleased with Scooby and I think he can only get better,” Napier said. “He’s developing better practice habits. He showed some toughness, working his way through some injuries. I respect that.”
