Billy Napier reveals Gators’ plan at QB for Week 4 at Mississippi State

Billy Napier is facing a ton of scrutiny as the coach for Florida. The rumors are swirling that boosters are already getting the money needed to offer him a buyout. He is also struggling to figure out the quarterback position as Graham Mertz and DJ Lagway have both been sharing time.
Many fans have been clamoring for Lagway to be given the reigns as the starting quarterback, but that isn’t going to be the case as the Gators play Mississippi State this weekend. The plan right now will be Mertz starting in both halves, with Lagway being involved quickly after.
After that, Napier said the decision will be made based on as the game and their play progresses:
#Gators QB rotation will work with Graham Mertz starting, DJ Lagway getting involved early in both halves … then decisions will be made from there forward as play progresses, Billy Napier says.

There is an old saying in football that if you have 2 quarterbacks, you have 0 quarterbacks. That feels especially relevant right now.
The game against Mississippi State figures to be the most winnable game remaining on the Florida schedule, other than possibly the regular season finale against Florida State. Napier could likely be coaching for his job in this game. Whichever quarterback shows early that they are playing well figures to be the guy that plays the majority of the game.
Kickoff is scheduled in Starkville at 12 p.m. ET and the game will be aired on ESPN.
