The decision on The Plains has finally been made, Bo Nix will be Auburn’s starting quarterback.

The true freshman beat out redshirt freshman Joey Gatewood for the starting role following a heated offseason competition that raged on all the way through training camp but Nix will be the first quarterback that takes the field when Auburn meets Oregon in the season opener from Arlington’s AT&T Stadium.

The news was first reported by Brandon Marcello of 247Sports and later confirmed by Auburn.

Gus Malzahn is scheduled to meet with the media on Tuesday evening, where he will undoubtedly be asked to comment on the news.

Nix was a five-star signee in Auburn’s 2019 signing class and the nation’s No. 2 dual-threat quarterback prospect out of Pinson Valley High School in Pinson, Ala. He is the son of former Auburn quarterback, Patrick Nix.

Both quarterbacks were Under Armour All-Americans in their respective recruiting classes.
