Bobby Petrino typically calls games in the booth, but that changed after Jimbo Fisher was fired last week.

SEC Network+ cameras showed Petrino on the field during the first half, as the Aggies saw their first 3 drives end with a pick-6, a touchdown and a punt. Petrino appeared to call plays from the sideline, as he also held a playsheet in his hands.

Petrino was later seen meeting with offensive linemen on the sidelines after a drive where Jaylen Henderson was sacked twice.

Petrino has been fairly solid for the Aggies this season, as they’re 7th in the SEC in total offense at 400 yards per game. They’re also 4th in the SEC in scoring offense at 34.2 points per game. Throughout the season, Fisher praised Petrino’s contributions to the staff and team, and gave him high marks overall.

But against Abilene Christian on Saturday, the Aggies got off to a slow start, and had just 82 yards in the first quarter, including just 17 rushing yards.

After an early pick-6, Henderson bounced back to complete 4 straight passes to end the 1st quarter.
