In less than 24 hours, the Arkansas Razorbacks will take the field for their home opener against Nicholls State in search of snapping 10-game losing streak.

The Colonels of Nicholls State shouldn’t provide too much of a challenge for the Razorbacks as they are coming off a 4-8 season in the Southland Conference and are in the midst of a seven-game losing streak. Despite there not being much surprise in who should win this game, we’ll go ahead and make some fun predictions for the Hogs and how they’ll perform against the Colonels.

Bold prediction #1: AJ Derby catches two touchdown passes and leads team in receptions

Derby has emerged as a viable receiving threat in Arkansas’ passing game, despite it being just his first year at the tight end position. He’s 6-foot-5, 255 pounds, so he provides a very big, easy target for Brandon Allen and Derby’s past experience at quarterback has helped him break down defenses coverage-wise.

RELATED: AJ Derby transitioning smoothly to tight end

Allen hooked up with Derby last week at Auburn for four receptions and 40 yards, including a beautiful 18-yard touchdown across the middle of the defense. This week, Derby will continue to develop a rhythm with Allen and I expect the junior quarterback to look his way even more against Nicholls State, especially in the red zone. You can book two scores down and a big day in receptions for Derby.

Bold prediction #2: Korliss Marshall exceeds 100 yards rushing

As you probably know by now, Arkansas has a dynamic trio of running backs. Korliss Marshall, the newest of the bunch, is finally a full time running back this season. He’s shifty, quick and the biggest home-run threat of the group. Although Alex Collins and Jonathan Williams may be more talented, I think Marshall has the best game out of the three, thanks to a big run by the dynamic sophomore. He’ll pass the century mark against Nicholls State.

Bold prediction #3: Josh Liddell notches two turnovers for the defense

This matchup against Nicholls State might not be competitive, but it’ll be important, especially for the Razorbacks secondary. Not only does it give them a game to shore up some weaknesses as well as get their younger guys more game experience. True freshman safety Josh Liddell is expected to get “every opportunity” on Saturday, according to head coach Bret Bielema. Liddell is an athletic and rangy safety with great ball instincts. With the increase in playing time, I believe Liddell will take advantage of his opportunities and capitalize on an unimpressive Nicholls State passing attack.
