Boo Carter’s status within the Tennessee football program has come into question recently after a report shed light on missed workouts.

Last week, a report indicated Carter had missed numerous team activities to the point he was confronted by team leaders. That report also referenced Carter’s status with the Vols as “uncertain” due to the absences and potential rift with his teammates.

As of Tuesday, ESPN’s Chris Low offered a new report on the situation, and he is saying that Carter’s status in Knoxville is not in jeopardy. According to Low, Carter is not being dismissed from the Vols, and head coach Josh Heupel is expected to address the situation later on Tuesday.

At his press conference, Heupel addressed the matter and said that Carter is still a member of the program. However, the head coach also said the defensive back has some work to do to get back on the field.

That’s certainly not the kind of ordeal the Vols were hoping for after dealing with the Nico Iamaleava fiasco in the spring. Carter was an early standout as a true freshman a season ago, appearing in all 13 games with 38 total tackles, a sack and an interception. He was also dynamic as a punt returner, averaging 16.5 yards per return.
