Alabama checked in at No. 6 in the first edition of the 2022 College Football Playoff rankings, as the 1-loss Crimson Tide are one spot above undefeated TCU from the Big 12.
CFP chair Boo Corrigan explained why Alabama got the nod above TCU despite its loss against Tennessee.

“We’re looking for a balanced team, offense, and defense,” Corrigan said. “They’ve gotten behind in games.”
The committee is likely giving Alabama the upper hand for playing in the more competitive SEC, which has 5 teams in the top 11 of the initial rankings.
Alabama lost 52-49 to Tennessee in what was perhaps the most exciting game of the season. Besides that loss, Alabama has defeated Utah State, Texas, UL Monroe, Vanderbilt, Arkansas, Texas A&M, and Mississippi State.
Meanwhile, 8-0 TCU has wins against Colorado, Tarleton, SMU, Oklahoma, Kansas, Oklahoma State, Kansas State, and West Virginia.
Alabama will get the chance to add to its resume when it travels to face No. 10 LSU on Saturday. That contest will play a key factor in deciding the SEC West champion.
Alabama-LSU is slated for a 7 p.m. ET kickoff and will be televised on ESPN. Alabama has won the last 2 meetings against LSU, holding the all-time series edge 55-26-5.
