Booger McFarland provided an interesting assessment of the LSU-Alabama rivalry on Friday.

The annual matchup between the Tide and Tigers is traditionally one of the most competitive games of the season. The winner of the game is usually in strong contention to win the SEC West and in position to make it to Atlanta for the SEC Championship Game.

Unfortunately for Tigers fans, the Tide have dominated the matchup for much of Nick Saban’s tenure in Tuscaloosa. Alabama has won six straight over LSU and are big favorites once again in this year’s game.

LSU is looking to turn this series around under head coach Ed Orgeron. According to McFarland, the chances of the Tigers turning things around rests on their ability to get top-notch recruits to come to Baton Rouge.

Jordan James with 247 Sports shared McFarland’s comments from Friday morning:

“This game is really played on National Signing Day in February,” McFarland said. “Alabama has won that day to the tune of coming into Louisiana and getting some of the best prospects. While I expect LSU to be competitive, I in no way shape or form expect them to win that game.”

McFarland was an All-American DL at LSU before playing in the NFL. He now serves as an analyst for ESPN.
