Basically every time Max Johnson made a big play during his first collegiate start, which came last season as LSU beat Florida in The Swamp despite being a 23-point underdog entering the game, ESPN’s cameras panned to Brad Johnson cheering on his son from the stands.
Being the son of a former NFL quarterback has likely opened many doors for Max during his football career but credit the young quarterback for making the most of his opportunities last fall in head-to-head wins against Kyle Trask and Matt Corrall — two of the better signal-callers in the SEC in 2020.
After completing 48 of 87 passes for 674 yards with six touchdowns and only one interception during LSU’s final two games of the season — both of which were wins — Johnson entered spring practice in Baton Rouge as the team’s No. 1 option under center.
While he hasn’t yet won the starting job at LSU, his dad is certainly doing what he can to help his son improve this offseason leading up to the start of LSU’s upcoming training camp.
The latest evidence of this comes from a video posted by Brad Johnson showing off the arm accuracy that runs in the family.
