Brandon Miller is facing some tough competition to be the No. 2 overall pick in next week’s NBA Draft.

Scoot Henderson held an impressive workout with the Charlotte Hornets this week, according to ESPN’s Jonathan Givony. Henderson has long been a contender to be picked No. 2 overall, but previous reports had the Hornets leaning toward Miller in that spot.

Givony released a new mock draft on Wednesday that still has Miller going No. 2 overall. However, it’s clear that Henderson made quite the impression on the Hornets’ brass.

Here’s some analysis on the developing situation from Givony:

Scoot Henderson helped his standing in Charlotte with a highly impressive workout this past weekend in front of the Hornets’ front office and coaching staff. He showed an impressive level of conditioning, intensity, explosiveness and shot-making that portend good things for him later. Still, many signs continue to point toward Miller being the pick at No. 2, both due to his clean roster fit as much as the front office’s belief in his long-term talent.

Givony also reported that Charlotte has been doing “due-diligence” in Tuscaloosa regarding Miller’s involvement in the Jan. 6 shooting of Jamea Jonae Harris. Miller has not been charged with a crime and is being treated as a cooperating witness by the Tuscaloosa Police Department.

Alabama has not had a player be selected in the top 2 of the NBA Draft since Antonio McDyess in 1995.

The 2023 NBA Draft will be held on June 22.
