The NCAA has denied Brendan Sorsby’s request for reinstatement, as widely expected. Sorsby’s search for 2025-26 eligibility now relies on his court date in Lubbock County, which is set for June 1

As alluded to, Sorsby had previously filed a lawsuit against the NCAA, insisting “The NCAA has weaponized his condition to shore up a facade of competitive integrity, while simultaneously profiting from the very gambling ecosystem it polices.โ€ With the NCAA now making an official declaration on his eligibility status, Sorsby’s hopes of playing college football in 2026 now rest in the hands of the judge.

Sorsby released a statement with a post on Instagram after the NCAA’s decision on Tuesday. Notably, Sorsby included the following:

“With the support of my coaches, teammates and the university, I’m looking forward to returning to campus in Lubbock. If I’m blessed and fortunate enough to have the opportunity to continue my college career at Texas Tech, I know I will get the support I need, including through the school’s Center for Students in Addiction Recovery,” Sorsby’s post said. “I am deeply sorry to everyone I’ve disappointed and am committed to the hard and necessary work ahead.”

If Sorsby is unable to play college football in 2026, the 2026 NFL Supplemental Draft remains a realistic avenue for him. The supplemental draft is set for June 22.

Sorsby was expected to be one of the most impactful transfers in college football next season. The former Cincinnati quarterback threw for 27 touchdowns with 5 interceptions alongside 590 rushing yards and 5 rushing touchdowns.
