Tennessee starter announces opt-out in the middle of Jeremy Pruitt’s latest press conference

Tennessee kicker Brent Cimaglia has opted out of the remainder of the 2020 season.
Cimaglia made that announcement on Monday afternoon during Jeremy Pruitt’s Monday press conference to open Vanderbilt Week.
“It is with a heavy heart that I have decided to opt-out for the remainder of the 2020 football season,” Cimaglia wrote. “It has taken some time to come to this conclusion, however my focus is to work on my mental well-being and physical health … I look forward to giving my best in the future.”
Cimaglia is in his fourth season with the Vols, but it’s been his worst campaign so far.
He’s made just 5-of-9 field goal attempts after making over 75 percent of his tries over the last two seasons. He also missed the first extra point of his career on Saturday against Florida.
During the Monday press conference, Pruitt said that his expectation is that Cimaglia will re-join the team in 2021 and made the decision to opt-out to better prepare himself for next season.
Pruitt also said Paxton Brooks or Toby Wilson will replace Cimaglia at kicker for the remainder of the year.
Tennessee plays Vanderbilt on Saturday. Kickoff is at 4 p.m. ET.
