Virginia Tech officially announced the firing of head coach Brent Pry on Sunday morning, with the Hokies moving on from Pry following an 0-3 start to the 2025 campaign.

Following the announcement, Pry released a written statement:

Within the message, Pry emphasizes that “Blacksburg will always have a special place in our hearts. We leave with wonderful memories and lifelong friendships, and we will forever be cheering on the Hokies.”

Pry also thanked the many members of Virginia Tech’s administration, his coaching staff and his players, as well as his family for their continued support.

The former Penn State defensive coordinator finished with a 16-24 record over 3 seasons in Blacksburg, going 1-1 in bowl games during that time. Compared to the legendary years of Frank Beamer and even the roller coaster ride that was the Justin Fuente era, Pry’s tenure failed to meet the high standards that the Hokie program has for itself.

Now, Virginia Tech will be among the first college football programs to begin a coaching search this fall, with some suggesting that alumnus and current South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer could be among the school’s first calls. Beamer was a long snapper for the Hokies and was around the program plenty growing up while his father was the man in charge.
