Brent Venables provided an update on one of his star offensive players. Andrel Anthony, the Sooners’ leading receiver, left the Red River Rivalry game after suffering a leg injury in the 3rd quarter.

The receiver went down during a Dillon Gabriel scramble and had to be helped to the locker room. Unfortunately, it appears that the receiver will not be on the field again in 2023.

Venables said he will have season-ending surgery in the near future:

The Sooners were able to squeak out a 34-30 win over Texas even after losing their best receiver.

Anthony will be a huge loss for the Sooners. The receiver leads the team with 429 receiving yards. Only Drake Stoops has more than Anthony’s 27 receptions. The Sooners’ No. 6 passing offense will have to rely on Drake Stoops, Jalil Farooq, and Nic Anderson to step up in Anthony’s place.

The 6-0 Sooners will have a bye week after the intense Red River Rivalry match. The team will have a chance to get healthier before taking on the UCF Knights in Week 8.
