Brent Venables’ Oklahoma team took it on the chin Saturday night against Tennessee — on the scoreboard and in the injury department, too.
After the 25-15 home loss to the 6th-ranked Volunteers, the head coach of the 15th-ranked Sooners gave an update on his walking wounded.
Venables said wide receiver Nic Anderson re-strained his quad. Anderson was making his return from injury on Saturday but was forced to leave the game in the 1st quarter and was later seen in street clothes.
Meanwhile, another Sooners starting wideout, Deion Burks, has a soft tissue injury, according to Venables. Burks did manage 4 catches for 32 yards in Saturday’s game, but he was not a difference-maker like he usually is, and it obviously hurt Oklahoma offensively in a game it was held to 15 points.
Then there’s the gruesome Kendel Dolby situation. During the 1st half, the Sooners defensive back suffered a serious leg injury while trying to make a tackle.
After the game, Venables said that Dolby dislocated his ankle and will have surgery.

Oklahoma, which suffered its 1st loss of the season Saturday after 3 wins to open 2024, will try to pick up the pieces after a devastating night in Norman when the Sooners travel to Auburn for a Week 5 matchup.
