Brent Venables isn’t ruling out a potential 2-quarterback system at Oklahoma in 2024.

The Sooners have had difficulties on offense all season long. Jackson Arnold began the year as the starter, but was benched halfway through the Tennessee game in favor of true freshman Michael Hawkins Jr. Hawkins has started the last 2 games for OU, but questions have emerged after the Sooners averaged just 3.4 yards per play against No. 1 Texas last weekend.

Venables announced on Monday that Hawkins is still OU’s starter for this weekend’s game against South Carolina. However, at his weekly press conference on Tuesday, the OU coach didn’t rule out potentially going to a 2-quarterback system.

“I’m certainly not immune to anything,” Venables said. “I know Steve Spurrier did it for his whole career. With that being said, it would be great if you had 1 that you could get behind and do the things that are necessary in order to win.

“We’re certainly not putting it out of the realm of possibility in the future.”

The South Carolina game is critical for OU’s bowl hopes in 2024. The Sooners currently have 4 wins, but the Gamecocks are 1 of 2 remaining teams the schedule that are currently outside of the AP Top 25. OU’s remaining slate includes games against Alabama, LSU, Ole Miss and Missouri.

Kickoff against South Carolina is set for 12:45 p.m. ET on Saturday afternoon.
