Heading into the 2017 season, there’s no doubt about who the starting quarterback for the Arkansas Razorbacks is.

That, of course, is Austin Allen, who led the SEC in passing yards in 2016, besting Mizzou’s Drew Lock by 31 yards.

Now, though, the Hogs know who the backup will be, as Bret Bielema has named redshirt freshman Cole Kelley to the position, according to 247Sports.

Bielema said both Kelley and redshirt sophomore Ty Storey competed well, and both should see some time at the No. 2 position:

“The best thing they’ve got going is competition amongst themselves,” Bielema said. “So Cole may be the guy this week and Ty could be the guy next week and, to be quite honest, depending on game situations, it might determine who goes into the game overall.”

For the Week 1 game against Florida A&M, though, Kelley has earned the right to be Allen’s top backup.

Kelley redshirted last year and didn’t see any game action, but that could change this fall.
