Per ESPN, Favre is one of dozens of defendant in a lawsuit seeking to recoup at least $77 million in welfare funds that were “earmarked for poor families,” but ultimately diverted to “the rich and powerful.”
According to state and civil lawsuits, Favre is accused of diverting welfare funds to Prevacus (the company he believed was working on a “breakthrough concussion drug”) as well as to his alma mater, Southern Miss. The funds for Southern Miss were intended to help build a new volleyball facility for the program. Favre has denied any wrongdoing.
Favre, 54, last played in the NFL during the 2010 season.
