Eli Ricks has settled in to the Alabama defense since transferring from LSU in the offseason. After a pair of seasons with the Tigers, he entered the transfer portal and ended up in Tuscaloosa.

Despite being hampered by a back injury toward the beginning of the season, he had what was his best game as a Crimson Tide player on Saturday against Mississippi State. He registered 4 passes defensed that afternoon, a career high.

One of Ricks’ teammates in the backfield, Brian Branch, who totaled 4 tackles, a sack, and 1.5 tackles for a loss against the Bulldogs, was among one of those impressed by the showing.

“Eli played phenomenal. Every pass that was thrown his way, he shut it down. I knew he was capable of doing it, but for him to come out in his first game and do that, it’s great. I feel like big things are coming Eli’s way,” he said, according to Touchdown Alabama magazine.

We’ll see what else Ricks has up his sleeve on the other side of the bye week. Alabama travels to Baton Rouge to face LSU on Nov. 5.
