Former LSU head coach Brian Kelly was interviewed on SiriusXM Radio on Friday morning and addressed his future in the sport.
Kelly was fired by LSU this past fall and does not currently have a job lined up for the 2026 season. However, the longtime head coach indicated that he’s going to remain active in college football this offseason so he can be ready if the right opportunity presents itself in the future.
“I don’t know that I’ve made the decision that I want to get back in, as all the things we’ve talked about, I’d want to see some changes. But I think while you wait, you need to work,” Kelly told Danny and Dusty In The Morning, via On3. “And so, I need to stay in the game. My first order of business is this next two, three weeks, I’m gonna be visiting some places to see spring ball, get a chance to see some things relative to the football side, the operational side, some of the things we talked about today with NIL, transfer and calendar, and get a temperature in the spring for some things.”
Kelly said he’ll also be visiting some of his former assistant coaches who are now in the NFL and across college football to get a sense of where he can “be better” as a head coach.
“And so, that’s really my focus right now,” Kelly added. “And then if the right situation comes about and I’m ready, I’m certainly going to entertain that.”
The 2026 campaign will be the first without Kelly as an FBS head coach in more than 2 decades. His first FBS job was at Central Michigan from 2004-06. Kelly also had stints at Cincinnati and Notre Dame before making his way to Baton Rouge.
