The No. 3 LSU Tigers are coming off a massive rivalry win in Week 3 against the Florida Gators, but they didn’t leave the game unscathed, as Tigers’ star quarterback Garrett Nussmeier re-aggravated a lingering Torso injury he has apparently been dealing with all season long.
According to fourth-year LSU head coach Brian Kelly, Nussmeier has been dealing with the injury all season long, and it has been affecting his effectiveness as a passer over the first few weeks.
Kelly joined SEC Network’s Paul Finebaum on Monday afternoon to talk about his senior quarterback, where he went into detail about Nussmeier’s injury, and what he expects from the star gunslinger moving forward.
“It’s really a minor injury, but it’s one that we’ve had to manage,” Kelly said. “It’s like anything else, if you’re not getting your throws in, if you’re able to that on a consistent basis, then there’s some thing you’re going to be careful with. He’s going to be fine. The bye week will get him over the hump. He’s made progress, and he’s feeling so much better now, and we expect him to continue to improve.”
The SEC is wide open, but any path for the Tigers’ to the mountain top will have to go through Nussmeier. LSU has handled its business so far, but it’ll need its leader under center back at full strength if it wants to maintain its early form across the meat of its schedule.
