Brian Kelly wasn’t too surprised by Kayshon Boutte’s change in plans for the 2023 season.
Boutte surprised college football fans when he announced last month that he would be returning to LSU for the 2023 season. A few days ago, however, Boutte had a change of heart and declared for the 2023 NFL Draft.
At a media opportunity ahead of Monday’s Citrus Bowl, Kelly was asked about Boutte. The head coach noted that the talented wide receiver had been going back and forth on his decision for a while. Kelly acknowledged that Boutte is ready to make the jump to the NFL and has everyone’s support.

When Kelly was asked why Boutte was listed as “unavailable” for the Citrus Bowl game prior to declaring for the NFL Draft, the coach said he could not comment further on the matter.

In his junior season, Boutte was second on LSU in receptions (48) and receiving yards (538), behind Malik Nabers (63 catches for 854 yards). The Tigers face Purdue in the Citrus Bowl Monday (1 p.m. ET, ABC).
