Former LSU head coach Brian Kelly opened up on his emotions following getting fired from LSU on “Dusty and Danny In the Morning.”
Kelly was hired back in 2021 to be the replacement for Ed Orgeron. After making the move from Notre Dame, Kelly started his LSU career hot. The Tigers went 10-4 in 2022 and 10-3 in 2023. However, in 2024, Kelly lost his third straight season opener, and frustrations began to rise.
Things came tumbling down as Kelly began the 2025 season with a 5-3 overall record and a 2-3 record in SEC play after high expectations heading into the season. After a home loss to Texas A&M 49-25, LSU had had enough and fired Kelly a day later.
Here’s what Kelly had to say about his emotions following being fired from LSU:
“Look, the easy answer is I didn’t win enough games. That’s the bottom line, but we came there to build a program. And we didn’t get a chance to finish it. So, I think probably the overall riding emotion in that respect is, you know, disappointed that we didn’t get to finish the job…You’re in this long enough, you’re probably going to get fired, but I never thought that would occur. So I think the emotions, more anything else, for me was disappointment.”
