Brian Kelly refers to Clemson’s stadium as ‘Death Valley junior’ in speech
LSU head coach Brian Kelly took a jab at Clemson while speaking at an event on Wednesday afternoon.
Kelly and his team are preparing to travel to Clemson for a colossal Week 1 matchup with Dabo Swinney’s squad. In addition to LSU and Clemson both sharing the “Tigers” mascot, they also both refer to their stadiums as “Death Valley.”
Ahead of the trip to Clemson in a few weeks, Kelly called Clemson’s Memorial Stadium “Death Valley Jr.”
“You want attention to detail on 4th and goal,” Kelly said. “You want great habits when they’re needed, when you’re on the road and you’re playing in Death Valley Jr., not the Death Valley … that’s what you need. You need those traits on a day to day basis.”
It’s not often a coach is providing bulletin-board material before a big game, but it seems that’s exactly what Kelly has done with this remark.
LSU and Clemson have met 4 times previously but never at either “Death Valley” stadium. All 4 games took place in the postseason — one Sugar Bowl, two Peach Bowls and one CFP National Championship at the end of the 2019 season. LSU is 3-1 in those meetings, including a big win over Clemson in that aforementioned title game.
Clemson is a 2.5-point favorite against LSU in Week 1, according to the latest odds from bet365. If you’re interested in betting on college football this fall, here’s a bet365 Louisiana bonus code to help you get started with a welcome bonus.
